In the last 3… a reflection

In the last 3 years since graduating, I’ve found it difficult to find a textile job which would accept an enthusiastic divergent thinker with a 2:2 grade. This led me to do many things: internships, part time jobs, personal textile projects, exhibition artwork, collaborations, costumes for performance, volunteer workshops, talks and lectures, mentoring and much more! It led to some good and some bad choices, many highs and lows. The variety of roles, experience and perseverance  is becoming worth it now!

In the last 3 months, I have been accepting and pulling together all my strength to come to terms with a personal tragedy which happened last year. I’ve been supporting and I am being supported. I’ve also come to realise that no matter what others may do, you will always be different. I will continue to love, care and help those around me as well as those who are not and that I do not know.

In the last 3 weeks I have had so much interest from other people asking me to be involved in projects, events, exhibitions, it feels quite overwhelming, but I know I can do them and continue to push myself to achieve more. I’ve  got a lot of notes to write up and a lot of thoughts to process.

In the last 3 days, I’ve seen, spoken to and emailed so many great friends and contacts. It feels great and I can only hope it continues in this steady pace which is giving me time to really appreciate what I have. I’m defrosting just like the oak tree at the bottom of the garden.

In the last 3 hours, I’ve got a third of the way through an actionplan which I hope will change my life! And written this little reflection as a much needed piece of procrastination.

In reflection, I don’t really like 3’s. However as I’m a positive person, I’ll look forward to the next 3 hours, 3 days, 3weeks, 3 months, 3 years of my life and beyond. Some people are afraid of being open and honest, being personal. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

Keep optimistic, motivated and strong!
